GREECE PELOPONNESE MESSINIA CHORA VOLIMIDIA

Between 1952 and 1965 Spyridon Marinatos excavated 32 Mycenaean chamber tombs on the Angelopoulos plot in Volimidia. This large cemetery lies about 1 km North-Northeast of the village of Chora and 5 km North of Nestor's palace at Ano Englianos. The site lies in the immediate vicinity of some modern houses and is signposted from the road that leads from Chora to Kalamata and only a short walk away.

The pictures of my students visiting the quite unknown site, probably famous only for archaeologists, may be misleading: it is pretty sure that there are no visitors around although the site is freely accessible and very well worth a visit.
